About

So, who are you and what do you do?

Well, I'm Jamie Emerson, a wedding photographer based in the North East covering weddings in Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland and the whole of Tyne and Wear. Established in 2005, Emerson Photography has consistently provided a fully insured, professional wedding photography service in County Durham and Tyne and Wear.

Have you got any qualifications?

Yes - I do have a B.A.(Hons) in Photography and a few ‘A’ Levels in studio management and photography. More recently (March 2012), I was very proud to have been recognised as a member of Qwest. This is an organisation, "...dedicated to identifying Quality Wedding Establishments. Qwest professionals are assessed annually to monitor and maintain consistent high standards". So in other words, it's not an organisation anyone can pay to join, which is what differentiates it from so many others.

Over and beyond qualifications, I am always learning. I make a point of networking with as many top quality wedding suppliers as I can, sometimes at semi-formal industry 'tweet-ups' such as those organised by Brides up North, the North East's number one wedding blog, sometimes working with other leading North East wedding photographers from Newcastle, and sometimes just by getting together with other wedding professionals for an informal shoot and skill-swap.

So why should I choose Emerson Photography?

Good question - there's so much choice these days!

The pictures. No matter who you choose to shoot your wedding, just make sure that you LOVE the photographs - after all the fancy marketing talk, flashy websites and sales pitches, the images are what count. You can see some of mine HERE. I've also put together a quick guide on choosing your wedding photographer which you can read HERE. Please also take a second to see if I've shot at your North East wedding venue before - I almost certainly have! The venue photography section is very new and is being constantly updated - let me know if there's a venue you'd particularly like to see and I'll send you a link.

Experience is well worth looking for too. Nearly eight years of photographing glorious North East weddings in all kinds of weird and wonderful weather, in all sorts of venues means I can adapt to pretty much anything that's thrown at me.

Consistency; being able to get beautiful photographs every single time, not just on a 'good day'. Having the technical know-how and a practiced eye for stories and detail are crucial too.

There are a few terms you'll hear a lot when looking for a wedding photographer; 'reportage', 'unobtrusive', 'photojounalistic', 'candid' etc. No-one describes themselves as 'traditional' any more - it's just not fashionable! There really aren't that many true photojournalistic wedding photographers around - I know of perhaps two! What I can do for clients though, is take that behind-the-scenes, story-telling quality and blend it with some very dramatic wedding day portraiture with the absolute minimum of fuss and without mountains of photographic gear getting in everyone's way - the very best of both worlds!

Witnessing the buzz of excitement in a bride's house on the morning of her wedding; capturing the emotion on the faces of two people in love, standing at the altar; photographing families at a reception on the proudest day of their lives: all these are moments which make my job a genuine pleasure.
